Why consider BMW motorcycles? I've been riding them for over 10 years and they've never let me down. Good power, great gas mileage, stable handling, long distance comfort and a hoot to ride! What's not to like?
I have noticed a lot of people think that BMW's are the highest priced bikes around, but that's just not the case. They have entry level bikes up to high end models and everything in between. Other manufacturers have bikes that are as much or more.
I have been riding motorcycles since about 1987. Owned many different brands and sizes. I traded in a Gold Wing for the first of my BMW bikes, an R110GS. It was one of those big dual sport motorcycles and was a lot of fun. I've had several others including the K1200LT, a big touring bike that my wife and I rode from Iowa to Georgia and back. That was a great trip.
I currently have an R1200RT. It's a sport touring type, and my favorite so far. It has a lot of goodies on it that my wife really appreciates. Heated seats and a power outlet for her electrically heated vest. The vest is one of many available BMW motorcycle accessories. This bike also has an electrically adjustable windshield that is the cat's meow! It can be adjusted on the fly to find that "just right" spot for wind control. Heated hand grips, cruise control, anti-lock brakes and an electronically adjustable suspension make this bike the best around for motorcycle touring in my humble opinion. I just need more time to ride.
My introduction to the world of BMW motorcycles began with a stop at Gina's BMW motorcycles. They are located in Iowa City, Iowa. I can't count how many times they have helped me with my questions about which bike or what accessory to buy. Everyone there has always been knowledgeable and friendly. Good people selling cool stuff!
The owners, Gina and Julius Dusterhoft, are riders too. They have been on some pretty lengthy trips and can relate to all the biker issues that come up. Their daughter Anna also works there. I wish we could get over there more often to see them, but we don't seem to have the time right now. Someday soon I hope.
If you are thinking about getting a motorcycle, then consider a BMW. I think if you will ride one or two and see for yourself how they perform and feel, you will find they are a pretty good value. If you live in or near Iowa, call Gina's and make an appointment to see them. They have lots of people from out of state come there to purchase a bike.
I could go on forever about this, but I'll stop for now. When you decide to get a bike, make sure you go with a dealer that knows what they're doing. I did and I don't regret it. Most of the time the old saying is true- you get what you pay for. It's definitely true at Gina's.
